Welcome to J.R.E. Lee

Welcome to the Young Women’s Academy for Academic and Civic Development at J.R.E. Lee Opportunity School. The 2009–2010 school year promises to be a very exciting and challenging year as we continue on our journey as a single gender academy for young women in grades 6 through 12. As a part of the secondary school reform movement in Miami–Dade County Public Schools, J.R.E. Lee is embracing the reform concepts in our redesign. As we focus on the academic and civic development of our students, we are centering our curriculum around the career theme of marketing.

At the Young Women’s Academy, students are taught in smaller classes that allow personalization of the learning environment. With an eight period schedule, students attend four 90–minute classes each day. This schedule allows students greater opportunities for credit recovery, participation in intensive reading and math classes to assist in FCAT mastery, and personal and career enhancement through our elective offerings.

I encourage each and every student to take advantage of her stay at the Young Women’s Academy. Our goal is to help you grow academically, socially, and emotionally to better meet the challenges and opportunities that face you in your future. There are many activities, clubs, and programs being offered to facilitate this goal and a dedicated staff committed to your total education. We look forward to working with you this year as we move forward in our new direction.
